Well, here we are...

Quite recently I found a book among my possessions in which I had attempted to start a journal. The  thing that struck me most about it was that as I wrote I was clearly trying to paint a favourable picture of my life as it was back in 2001/2. Reading it back however I didn't recognise myself. I did however recognise the person I've been trying to be for some considerable time. In the intervening decade I've matured and realised that unlike the callow youth in his early 20s who saw himself as a pastor in waiting I'm a much more complicated individual. I worry that even now I come across as some kind of perfect person or even worse someone who thinks he's perfect and can't see his own faults. Once upon a time I did really want to be that person and and as I've said I still find myself occasionally trying to be that way but the difference now being I am much more aware of the internal conflict in which I find myself engaged. I'm 32, so however young I may outwardly appear I am a man and it's time to put away childish things and start being completely honest with myself. So basically this blog is a personal quest to explore my identity. I do also like to talk (and write) rubbish from time to time. You only have to encounter some of my more inane tweets about Neighbours or Doctor Who to know that to be the case. I've been on twitter for just over a year now and whilst I enjoy the sense of community I've recently started wanting to express myself in slightly fuller form than the 140 character limit imposed there. One day I hope to express myself more in a more original way in the form of fiction and non-fiction, I remember the first time I met one of my closest friends nearly 9 years ago I spent a long time talking about my longstanding literary aspirations but for now I just need to get used to writing so please bear with me as I'm no prose expert. Well, here we are...

  1. In another 10 years time when you are successful you can look back at this blog and say "after all that's how it all started!" :)
